DENVER FASHION WEEK: SPRING 2024
INNOVATIVE STYLE FROM MILE HIGH PERSPECTIVES
Shot for Fashion Denver, led by Brandi McMichael (Shigley), a trailblazer in Denver's fashion scene.
My passion for fashion traces back to my late grandmother Nellie, a talented clothing designer and seamstress in the Philippines.
Despite my creative roots, I initially shied away from pursuing the arts, driven by the belief that it "didn't make enough money." Instead, I earned a Bachelor's in Biotechnology and a Master's in Bioinformatics (think data science for biology and DNA-sequencing), and spent six years in the field of immuno-oncology and infectious disease.
After an unexpected layoff from my dream job in 2023, I realized my love for photography and the arts. Now, as a freelance documentary-style photographer, my aim is to reveal the untold stories of fashion shows, photographing the backstage hustle, the teamwork, and the raw emotions that are often overshadowed by the runway spotlight.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi, I’m Mio.
(pronounced "mee-oh") AKA Photomaki
I never know what to write about myself, but here's some facts about me:
I worked on a COVID vaccine, and have my Master's in Bioinformatics.
I played lacrosse in college and internationally for the Philippines.
I got my first camera in 2021, and started my photography business in 2022.
In the same week, my girlfriend at the time broke up with me and I got laid off from my bio-pharmaceutical job.
This led me to the idea of pursuing a creative career in photography full-time.
