Hi, I’m Mio.
(pronounced "mee-oh") AKA Photomaki
With a heart that beats for romance and an eye for casual beauty, I turn moments into timeless keepsakes.
My journey from bioinformatics (think, data science for biology) to the lens has sharpened my ability to discern the subtleties in every glance, every touch.
Ever since that first engagement session, I've felt a magnetic pull towards this craft, fusing my scientific precision with a passionate pursuit of beauty.
What the hell's a photomaki?
The name 'Photomaki' originated from the sushi roll, the futomaki. I LOVE sushi, and this one just seemed to roll off the tongue just right!
Photomaki was inspired by the idea that each photo, like a futomaki roll, is a masterpiece that combines different ingredients - TIMELESS emotions, CANDID moments, and STORY - to create a beautifully composed visual narrative.
My style of photography
Experiential. Editorial. Photo-journalistic.
If backcountry skiing is where you fell in love, I’ll capture it as if you’re reliving that moment.
With a fashion-inspired "pose-first, prompt-after" approach, I’ll guide you to look like models while creating candid, timeless images.
Your story matters to me. Whether it’s your first date spot or the place you shared your first kiss, let’s document your love authentically.
COmmercial Photography
I absolutely love working with businesses, big or small.
I've worked with solopreneurs, and companies as large as Hyundai.
After sitting behind a desk coding for years following graduate school, I have developed a curious eye for photographing people in their workspaces; I'm fascinated by what people do.
FASHION Photography
I used to shy away from posing my subjects—
now, I absolutely love proving that anyone can be a model.
My eye for fashion comes from my late grandmother, a renowned clothing designer in the Philippines.
Her legacy continues to inspire my work, shaping a generational love for style that now drives my passion for photography.
